Exciting News! Croydon’s Freedom Camping area has a new name – welcome to Racecourse Rest!
Once the heart of Croydon’s sporting scene, this site was home to thrilling horse races and lively cricket matches during the gold rush days. Now, it stands as a tribute to the town’s rich history, offering travellers a scenic and welcoming place to rest.
The Racecourse Rest Area offers a convenient and accessible location for nomads and travelers seeking a genuine Outback experience. Next to the Rodeo Grounds, 2 Allridge Street, Croydon, this camping spot is located approximately 1km from the town's centre and backs on to the Croydon Gulf Course. Camping is only allowed by permit. Get yours at the True Blue Visitor Information Centre (VIC). If you arrive after hours please fill in a self-registration form at the front to the VIC and put your registration form, inclduding a donation, into the letterbox.

Responsible Camping Guidelines for our Croydon Visitors
Guidelines for Racecourse Rest Camping:
- Campfires are not permitted
- There is no power or water, but there are toilets and showers.
- Respectful use of generators is permited.
- Maximum stay of 2 nights per vehicle
- Suitable for all vehicles and caravan sizes - tents are welcome
- Rubbish bins are not provided, please take your rubbish with you
- If you are a pet owner, please consider others and pick up what your pet leaves behind, and keep your animal on a lead at all times.
- Please keep the camping area clean and leave not trace so the next camper will be happy too.
- Water Points can be found in town, ask at the Visitor Information Centre
- Refuse Facility - Continue along Allridge Street, past the Freedom camping area and cemetery, directions can be fond on the town map.
- Dump Point - located at the Croydon Caravan Park, access is from outside of the park via Allridge Street.
- Washing of any type of vehicle is not permitted - Croydon Shire Council is currently operating under Level 1 water restrictions.
